A 33-year-old, Samson Sanjo, who broke into his former employer’s shop to steal, is to spend the next five years in jail, a Lagos court ruled on Thursday. An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court sentenced Sanjo after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of housebreaking and entering to steal.

On October 20th, the shop owner received a phone call from one of her neighbours that the accused, who had once worked for her, had used an iron cutter to cut off the padlock of her shop  at No. 510, Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

Sanjo was said to have been arrested by neighbours who gave him the beating of his life before the arrival of his employer.

The complainant also told the police that her shop had been raided twice early in October and N37,000 was stolen from the shop.

The accused was sentenced to jail after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of housebreaking and entering to steal.

 

The Magistrate who handed down the verdict said the convict should serve the five years without an option of fine, stating that the prosecution was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubts.

The prosecution established that the convict, a baker, had worked in the shop and was prosecuted about two years ago for stealing N75,000 from the same shop.
