Housekeeper, Ngozi Ojini, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of valuables worth N23.2 million from her Chinese employer.

Ojini, 27, was arraigned alongside Rosemary Sunday, 28, and Chiamaka Ojini, 26. They are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, but they pleaded not guilty.

Police Prosecutor Peter Nwangwu said that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 11, 2018, at 2.00p.m. at No. 20-24, Ozumba Nbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos. Nwangwu said that the accused stole valuables belonging to the complainant, Mrs Jannat Pawan Sharma.

He said that the accused stole cell phones, iPad, gold coins, diamond rings and different sets of gold jewellery from the Chinese.

“The housekeeper, who had been working for the complainant for years, connived with the others, broke into her room, stole the items and disappeared.

“The complainant reported the case  to the police, and the accused  were apprehended after an investigation,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused  bail of N2.7 million each with two sureties each in like sum.

Aje-Afunwa said that one of the sureties should be a blood relation of the accused.

The case was adjourned until April 4, for mention.
