Security guard bags 14 months imprisonment for theft

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 41-year-old security guard, Godwin Onoja, to 14 months imprisonment for stealing his employer’s property.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, informed the court that on April 18, the complainant, Biolose Gilbert, reported the matter at Life Camp Police Station.

Zannah said that on April 3, 2016, the complainant employed Onoja to work as a security guard at No. 12, Ashek Jarmah St., Jabi, Abuja.

He explained that Onoja dishonestly brought one engineer Jamilu and one Maigemu, now at large, and dismantled the complainant’s Mikano generator without his consent.

Zannah said Onoja and his accomplices dismantled the generating set and stole some parts.

He put the cost of the stolen parts at N1million, adding that during police investigation, some of the stolen parts were recovered.

Onoja had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge, bothering on joint act, criminal breach of trust and theft. The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N20, 000.

Sadiq warned the convict to be of good behaviour and desist from committing crime after serving out his punishment. He said the punishment would serve as deterrent to others.
