Security guard docked over alleged break-in, N7m goods theft

A security guard, Emmanuel Ogbuche, who allegedly burgled a boutique and stole N7 million goods, was on Thursday released on N1 million bail.

Ogbuche, 30, who resides at Abimbola Street, Lekki Phase, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the accused committed the offences with others still at large on April 10 at No. 70B, Emma Abimbola St., Lekki Phase 1.

Nwangwu alleged that the accused broke into the boutique of the complainant, Mrs Justina Oshogwemoh, through the ceiling and stole some dresses, shoes and bags all valued at N7 million.

The accused called the complainant and told her that her shop had been burgled and that the robbers had beaten and tied him before they robbed the shop.

“On getting to the shop, the complainant discovered that the accused was not been beaten; she reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested,” he said.

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling, asked Ogbuche to provide two sureties as part of the bail condition.

The case was adjourned until July 16 for trial.
