A 30-year-old housekeeper, Saidat Rahmon, who allegedly stole her employer’s jewellery and mobile phones all valued at N1. 57 million, was on Wednesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, who lives with her employer on Dalberto Street, Palmgrove Estate, Ilupeju, Lagos, is being tried for stealing. Police Prosecutor Raphael Donny told the court that the offence was committed between December 2017 February 2018.
Sgt. Donny said the accused stole her employer’s box of jewellery valued at N1 million, two pairs of shoes valued at N50,000 and phones.
“Other items stolen are two mobile phones valued at N210,000, one iPad and two tablets valued at N310,000, all belonging to Mrs Taiwo Ogundele.”
He alleged that the housekeeper stole the items on different days whenever she leaves the house in February. Donny said the accused was later arrested following a tip-off about her whereabouts.
The offence contravened Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Chief Magistrate A. O. Adedayo, admitted the accused to a bail of N500,000 in addition to two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until May 2 for mention.
